David Shannon, DDS
Okay, how you doing great to see you I'm doing great. I'm doing great I really am. This is this has been an amazing year. I mean, I had to say that with everything going on The COVID and everything let me close this door, so nobody It's just been it's been amazing. I've just been putting everything into place and it's like somebody invented the wheel And I just like I just picked it up and put it on a car. You know, it's like wow what a great invention Awesome, it's awesome what it's been. That's great. Well, you look great. You look great. I feel good and And your daughter she doing well. Oh, is he off to the house? This is like I should have done this years ago You know, it's like everything else what can I tell you my wife says that why you why did we do this years ago? You know, I come home from work. It's like it's housework. Great. You know, easy. Fantastic I don't need to talk about Well, better late than never, right? Yeah, yeah Well, you remember when you and I first met We were going to talk about how I'm going to sell my office like, why do I need to be To sell my office and you you were very honest. Yeah, like you looked at that number and you knew you said this number is too low Then no one's going to pay anything for this because you know, it's all going to be overhead. There's not going to be any profit there So what you really need to do is you need to get it up there in about, you know, 50,000 a month We were at the time. I was at about 35 And I said no, that's a that's a head boy. That's a big jump, you know So now my daughter's saying like, you know, so 75 is what we really should be at 100 Like, you know, we're at 75. It's like a year so I'm 35 to 75 And uh, I think we even have like $180,000 a month And just been it's just been doing great. It really has. Yeah, I got a hygienist working here four days a week now Whereas I was doing my own hygiene last August last August. I was doing my own hygiene Now I got maybe I need another day where I have to I need a day a week where I have two hygienists But that's going to be too many exams, you know We're not losing any patients. They're all retaining and we're It's just it's just been great and just every aspect of it, you know It's just great and my postcards. Oh my god. He's postcard. I just had somebody right before a lunch came in from where there's a From six new patients a month to last month. We had 52 new patients 52 new people it was unbelievable at 18 patients referred People into this office in one month. I mean it was amazing It's just incredible. We have a little fishball with it with the uh, you know Referral people, you know, when you're to give me the toothbrush and everything. It's like I started out with with 30 30 reviews on Google and I'm up to like I think I'm at 68 or 70 or something, you know Just just amazing people call oh yeah, I found you on Google, you know, I'm doing Google ads now I got a guy that's that's cranking those out every couple of you know what once a month or something just it's amazing It just is it's so much fun. Well, it sounds like you're having fun. It sounds like you're It's just it's the best. It really is the best just like this This is so much better than going to work every day. This is going to play every day This is a game. This is a game every day. You know, it's like what He was lecturing and he's talking about it being a game. This is a game Unbelievable Unbelievable. It's so much fun. It's awesome and and it was just it was it was You know, I want you to maybe just touch on a little bit You know, we hooked up prior to the new patient workshop. How long have you been in practice? Where's your practice? Just give me a little like just quick summary of overview So what would you want to tell somebody so they would go, uh, listen, that's that's that's different My situation's different Yeah, okay. Well, um, I got my license in 1975. So I've been practicing for 45 years, okay I've owned a couple of offices. I've had some big clinics. I took medical and did also like that people came along They wanted to buy them up over time. I put I sold them, you know for for to people That we're trying to you know do things like that and and I just Kind of moved the long and and and really wasn't enjoying practicing dentistry and I didn't know much about how to run a business But I ran them, you know, so I made money and everything, you know But I started winding down and I decided I was going to Practice dentistry. I wanted to I wanted to practice it and I bought a practice 12 years ago And this was in the valley San Fernando Valley and in Los Angeles where the valley has they want to be their own city The population will over a million here in the valley, you know and I don't really want to expose myself to the whole population here as far as, you know, a lot of medical and you know HMO stuff and everything I never really wanted to be involved in that so this office I bought in 2008 And I paid absolutely top dollar for it Just so that the market could crash. It's like it was waiting for me to make a purchase Before the economy would tank, you know, so it's like My dad used to talk about the depression and it's like whoa, this is me now So everybody started my dream. It was just it was the worst experience. I mean, I must have lost At least 60% of my practice at least maybe 70 They started signing up with PPO's And the the guy I bought it from was all FIFA service. It was all cosmetic work And people were losing their jobs left and right so I was like man, it was just Tanked and it went, you know, so far down. It's a thousand square feet. It's four operators and I wound up Just kind of struggling along there was a year there where I was taking money out of my my savings not my retirement but my savings And wasn't making any money and it was it was a really it was really tough and it was not only stressful. It was scary And I realized that I'm the master of my own ship and somehow I'm going to pull myself up by my bootstraps And I got a postcard for you guys in the mail and I said okay, there's a sign You better watch the signs man, you know, the you know the job new patient workshop. There we go Yeah, you know, you know, you know, the you know, the flood. You know, you know, the the whole the robo goes by the helicopter comes by You know, and then God says why you know, but why didn't you believe you know Grab the rope that he is, you know, so I did I went to the new patient workshop and Not only was it an eye opener. It was so Cookbook it was so cookie cutter do this do this do this now. I'm not going to sit there and debate It's not my job to tell you guys you're wrong. Oh, that's not how it's going to work I mean, it's like what where I am and you have gone From 35 to $75,000 a month is that right? Yeah. Yeah So now looking into you from associate Oh, yeah, yeah, I mean we did nothing in those two months. I stayed open for emergencies We weren't looking for money. We weren't looking for payment for things, you know I was doing a lot of open and meds doing some extractions. I really wasn't doing major work I didn't really have an assistant my system was too concerned about you know coming in and and being exposed to things So I did a lot of stuff by myself, which you know, you can do and you know We're lazy and we're spoiled, but we certainly know how to do things and so you know I did this stuff and and I got a lot of patients who Appreciated me being there, you know new patients from you know from the internet I did what you guys said, you know, I just let them know we're open if emergency stay away from the hospital stay away from Where's when we did videos on YouTube, you know Call me we'll get you into the office. It's a safe environment, you know There's nobody here. We're not running people through. You'll be fine. Let's take care of you before it becomes infected or whatever You know and so a lot of people who appreciated that wound up making appointments after everything kind of you know Cooled out a little bit cooler heads, you know, prevailed and they became new patients and they left doctors who you know wouldn't answer their phone So it was very helpful just being there for them and it was helpful for me to you know getting patients So that worked out well and that's it That first month we opened up May 18th we opened up. We closed March 18th and we opened up May 18th. We're close for two months May 18th we opened up and we hit the ground running It's all I can say. I mean it wasn't even like a fast walk. It was running It was like people were calling and they were, yeah, we're all you're open now great You know, we were calling people doing everything was supposed to be like hygiene full schedule And for those people who were nervous and they were on the schedule, you know from before we called there You know, we just they just said, you know, I just don't feel like okay, you know, you want to try August We put them in August some people said now we'll call you back And you know, we just roll with them. We said we understand how you feel, you know, stay safe be well and when you're comfortable We're here And we lose anybody. We lose any patients Tell me this dr. Shannon What would be the thing you would tell another doctor or other doctors If they were wondering, you know, the reason why we're doing this is not many people Not pity people believe businesses and that's what we teach you at the new patient workshop They don't believe businesses today. They believe the customers of that business for you that be patients For us that would be clients such as yourself. What would you tell another doctor or doctors about the new patient workshop if they were wondering should I do this shouldn't I do this Well, what I would what I would say to start would be Do you want to be a dentist? I mean it takes a certain person first of all, we're probably very driven As similar to MDs. We're also very mechanically oriented. We have very good hand-eye coordination And probably if a lot of guys retire you find out that they're building model airplanes or they're building railroads Or they're doing things with their hands because that's what they love to do And so playing guitar, you know, just using your hands and your fingers and corny, you know, these are all things that I love to do so the idea is Do you really want to be a dentist and if you want to be a dentist To me all the things that I've learned that I've gone to a lot of different courses and I learned a lot of different things in my career Using CE credits and everything if you want to be a dentist this course system Is the way to be a dentist This is the only way to be a dentist you do you there's there's no other way to learn how to communicate with people to Express yourself with people to understand people to be completely if you think you're compassionate with somebody You're not you're not compassionate with somebody until you take this course Because these courses teach you how to connect with people and they you it's not just a matter of putting them ahead of yourselves and and being concerned about caring for them It's truly a matter of wanting to better humanity Every aspect of yourself just becomes bigger you become like a 3D printing of yourself. It's just I don't know how I want to explain I mean my feeling is that any dentist who wants to be a dentist who wants to enjoy what they Do wants to love what they do wants to have a game have a have a fun day every day no matter how stressful the little minutia work is As a business you take this course and you feel more energized at the end of the day Then you do when you wake up in the morning You are raring to go to work and when you're done. It's like wow. I am a human being. I accomplished something today I just that's how I feel and that's the only way to describe these courses And you know, you can lead a horse to water and it's just a matter if if they're smart enough to drink You know, and it's the same thing with dentists they can they can sit and they can say well, I don't believe in this or I don't believe in that So, okay, so you know, it's like the world's flat the world's round. You know, use my favorite color greets my favorite color You know, let's go to lunch pal. What's the point? The thing is here's a system that really really works So use it Enjoy yourself. That's what I have to say. I love it. I love it. Well, Dr. Shannon I can't tell you enough of how um happy I am that you are doing well And that you and and your daughter have taken charge and and expanding and doing well through this time and you look great You always look great. You always look at when I see you. Thank you. Yeah. Yeah. I am just a happy person Glad to be alive 71 years old and still working, you know 10 hour days four days a week Just having a grand old time What can I say? The next time we do this I want I want to ask you to play some guitar for me, okay? You got it. Okay, my friend. Well, you do well And I'll see you and speak to you soon. All right. Thank you. Great. Thanks again. Time. Okay. Take care. Bye
“From 6 new patients a month. To last month we had 52 new patients! It was unbelievable!”
